Just A Minute!
Why do people keep saying "For awhile" when they ask you to hold the line while they connect you to whoever you're calling for?
It's grammatically wrong! Say "Just a minute," or "Please hold on,". I think this 'for awhile' thing was coined because people are too lazy to say, "Could you hold on for awhile?"
You can also "One moment, please," or simply "Wait!"
Yeah it's the editor in me that has a teeny-weeny patience with wrong use of phrases or words. Spoken or on print.
Really people, whoever's answering your phone don't only teach them the right etiquette. Remind them of the right things to say.
