Food for the Soul

Recent medical studies show that dark chocolate is not only good for your health, it's also good for your soul. Consuming it can lower blood pressure because a compound found in chocolate called flavonoids helps the blood vessels work more smoothly, thus, reducing the risk of heart disease.

Why dark chocolate? Because it is richer in flavonoids than milk chocolate since it has more cocoa. Moreso, dark chocolates have lower calories and therefore less fattening.

And why food for the soul? Maybe because eating chocolates generally makes you feel good.

Horror

This is the 1994 Pulitzer Prize-winning photo from photojournalist Kevin Carter taken during the Sudan famine.

The image shows a famine-stricken child crawling toward a UN food camp located a kilometer away. A vulture is waiting for the child to die to feast on its body.

No one knew what happened to the child. Carter committed suicide three months after taking this photograph.

Will the new aide promises from the G8 leaders finally eliminate hunger and poverty? Or will they choose to continue to spend millions in un-winnable war games?

And when will the world finally open its eyes to the inhumane conditions of children around the world, whom we call our future? Think.

The Ankh

The Ankh is an ancient Egyptian symbol of Eternal Life, symbolizing the joining of the masculine and feminine principal, and the cross of "as above so below".

In Egyptian art, especially that depicting the afterlife, their gods and goddesses are shown holding the Ankh by its loop as if it were a key. It is believed that this symbolically shows the Ankh would open the gates of death on to immortality. It is also known as the Key of the Nile, representing the union of Isis and Osiris.

A Perfect Day for Cappuccino...

Damn, it's raining again. There's something about the rain that sinks my mood. Don't really feel like going to work, not keen on staying home either.

Wish i could just chill out in a coffee shop, a hundred bucks for coffee and good conversation. Maybe find an interesting enough stranger and talk about the world...the redundancies of life, or anything as trivial as the traffic outside. Share a nice moment with someone you've only met because you wanted the couch instead of those hard wooden chairs that hurt your back.

It would be better if i was in another place, far from my comfort zone, traveling alone and exploring the world. Meet people you'll never see again. Look at signs you find both puzzling and amusing. Take mental photographs and souvenirs.

Life is too long. The hardest part of the day is waking up in the morning. The best part is your first cup of good coffee for the day. Then the rest goes on a downhill. You pray something different happens today, something that will catapult you into a higher level. But most days it's all the same.

I'm stuck in this office listening to dead conversations. I'd give anything to float out of here and find that stranger in the coffee shop. Still the rain wouldn't stop...thank god the day's end is near.
